When I founded IVS Digital in 2000, software looked very different from what it does today. Applications were installed from CDs. Internet connectivity was limited. Mobile phones were still primarily used for calls and text messages. Cloud computing didn't exist. Artificial intelligence was largely confined to research labs.
Over the following two decades, I had the privilege of leading clients through every major technology transformation that followed:
- From desktop applications to the web.
- From isolated systems to integrated enterprise platforms.
- From paper-based processes to digital workflows.
- From traditional software to cloud platforms.
- From mobile-first experiences to intelligent automation.
- And today, from conventional software development to artificial intelligence.
Each generation of technology promised to change everything. Some did. Many didn't.
The biggest lesson I've learned over nearly three decades isn't about technology at all.

Every generation believes it is living through the biggest technological revolution in history. I've heard that many times — with the arrival of the internet, e-commerce, mobile phones, cloud computing, social media, big data, digital transformation. Today it's artificial intelligence.
Every one of those technologies changed the way we work. But none changed the importance of trust, relationships, curiosity and good business. Those are still the foundations of every successful organisation.
AI is undoubtedly one of the most exciting technologies we've seen. But like every major innovation before it, its true value won't come from the technology itself. It will come from the people who use it wisely.
